Surah Name: Al-Mujadalah Meaning: The Pleading

  • Mujadalah literally means obstinate insistence that persists not withstanding a refusal A Companion, Aus bin as Sarmat-RAU said to his wife Khola-RAU that she was like his mother to him. Such utterance in the era of Ignorance was considered to be severer than divorce as an option of reconciliation stayed open in divorce, but it was impossible in this case. Khola-RAU brought the dispute to the Holy Prophet-SW for resolution, who told her that Allah-SWT ’s decree was not available on this particular subject. She insisted and complained that if the Divine revelation addressed all other matters, why was it silent in her case? So Allah-SWT sent the revelation and rejected this tradition by declaring it to be a lie as well as a sin and commanded to adopt the proper way of divorce, where separation was desired.

    • Allah-SWT , the Almighty had heeded the lady's request, and remedied the banal ritual she was complaining about. She sought remedy commensurate to their situation, believing that Allah-SWT hears all cries for help and is a Witness to everything.

bismillah

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْا قَوْمًا غَضِبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مَّا هُم مِّنكُمْ وَلَا مِنْهُمْ وَيَحْلِفُونَ عَلَى الْكَذِبِ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

Alam tara ila allatheena tawallaw qawman ghadiba Allahu AAalayhim ma hum minkum wala minhum wayahlifoona AAala alkathibi wahum yaAAlamoon(a)

Do you-SAAW not see those who take tor friends a people with whom Allah-SWT is annoyed? They are neither of you-SAAW nor of them, and they swear to a lie while they know.

(58:14)

أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا إِنَّهُمْ سَاء مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

aAAadda Allahu lahum AAathaban shadeedan innahum saa ma kanoo yaAAmaloon(a)

Allaah-SWT has prepared for them a grievous torment, verily vile is what they have been working,

(58:15)

اتَّخَذُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ

Ittakhathoo aymanahum junnatan fasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi falahum AAathabun muheen(un)

They have taken their oaths as a shield, and they have hindered others from the way of Allah-SWT , and theirs shall be a debasing torment.

(58:16)

لَن تُغْنِيَ عَنْهُمْ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا أُوْلَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

Lan tughniya AAanhum amwaluhum wala awladuhum mina Allahi shayan olaika ashabu a(l)nnari hum feeha khalidoon(a)

Their riches or their progeny will not avail them against Allah-SWT at all. They are the fellows of the Fire; there they shall abide

(58:17)

يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اللَّهُ جَمِيعًا فَيَحْلِفُونَ لَهُ كَمَا يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ

Yawma yabAAathuhumu Allahu jameeAAan fayahlifoona lahu kama yahlifoona lakum wayahsaboona annahum AAala shayin ala innahum humu alkathiboon(a)

This will happen on a Day when Allah-SWT will raise all together, then they will swear to Allah-SWT , as they swear to you today; imagining that they rest upon anything. Lo! Verily they are the liars.

(58:18)

اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَأَنسَاهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ أُوْلَئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِ أَلَا إِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

Istahwatha AAalayhimu alshshaytanu faansahum thikra Allahi olaika hizbu a(l)shshaytani ala inna hizba a(l)shshaytani humu alkhasiroon(a)

Satan has overpowered them and has caused them to forget Allah-SWT ’s Zikr. These are the band of Satan I Lo! Verily it is the band of Satan that shall be the losers

(58:19)

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحَادُّونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ أُوْلَئِكَ فِي الأَذَلِّينَ

Inna allatheena yuhaddoona Allaha warasoolahu olaika fee alathalleen(a)

Verily those who resist Allah-SWT and His-SWT Messenger-SAAW, they are among the lowest

(58:20)

كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَأَغْلِبَنَّ أَنَا وَرُسُلِي إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَوِيٌّ عَزِيزٌ

Kataba Allahu laaghlibanna ana warusulee inna Allaha qawiyyun AAazeez(un)

Allah-SWT has prescribed: Surely  I-SWT will overcome; I-SWT and My-SWT Messengers-AS .Verily Allah-SWT is  Strong, Mighty

(58:21)

لَا تَجِدُ قَوْمًا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ يُوَادُّونَ مَنْ حَادَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَوْ كَانُوا آبَاءهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَاءهُمْ أَوْ إِخْوَانَهُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَتَهُمْ أُوْلَئِكَ كَتَبَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَأَيَّدَهُم بِرُوحٍ مِّنْهُ وَيُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ أُوْلَئِكَ حِزْبُ اللَّهِ أَلَا إِنَّ حِزْبَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

La tajidu qawman yuminoona bi(A)llahi wa(a)lyawmi alakhiri yuwaddoona manhadda Allaha warasoolahu walaw kanoo abaahum aw abnaahum aw ikhwanahum aw AAasheeratahum olaika kataba fee quloobihimu aleemana waayyadahum biroohin minhu wayudkhiluhum jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu khalideena feeha radiya Allahu AAanhum waradoo AAanhu olaika hizbu Allahi ala inna hizba Allahi humu almuflihoon(a)

You shall not find a people who believe in Allaah-SWT and the last Day befriending those who oppose Allaah-SWT and His-SWT Messenger-SW, even though they be their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. These! He-SWT has inscribed faith on their hearts and has strengthened them with a spirit from Him-SWT , and He-SWT shall make them enter Gardens whereunder rivers Bow as abiders therein.  Well pleased is Allaah-SWT with them and well pleased are they with Him-SWT , these are Allah-SWT ’s band Lo! Verily it is Allah-SWT ’s

SECRETS OF REVELATION:

A Dangerous Form of Hypocrisy Grips Muslim Rulers Today

The Holy Prophet-SAAW knows those who befriend nations with whom Allaah-SWT is totally annoyed. They are so unfortunate that despite being identified as Muslims they are actually not so as they act against Muslim interests. Ironically the infidels do not own them either, taking them as Muslims. So these hypocrites dangle

pathetically in between the two sides. This is a fact they themselves realize but try to befool others through false oaths that whatever they do is in the Muslims interest.

 

Treaty with the Infidels

Our rulers often refer to the era of the Holy Prophet-SAAW and that of the four Righteous Caliphs–RAU in justification of treaties with infidels and the Jews. What they forget is that those treaties were meant to promote Muslim interests. Entering such treaties today is not only permitted but also very much desirable. But pacts that harm the Muslims and benefit the non believers tantamount to having friendship with them; and as such those involved no longer 'remain Muslims. The excruciating tortures of Allaah-SWT await them for they indulge in a hideous act. In the garb of Muslims, they obstruct those who try to tread the right path as did the hypocrites of the Holy Prophet-SAAW‘s times. The so-called Muslim today act similarly in collaboration with infidels to deny Muslims the Barakah of the Islamic system of life, which is practically blocking Islam. For them is a humiliating doom; neither their offsprings nor their plundered wealth shall avail them and into the Hell they shall be cast, to abide therein.

 

When Allaah-SWT shall gather all on Qayamah, they would take false oaths to prove their veracity, as they do here in the presence of Muslims. They are sadly mistaken that then words carry weight. Rather, they are such ardent liars who lie even to themselves. The Satan overcame and they submitted to him. So they were divested of Allaah-SWT ’s love and His-SWT Zikr. They indeed are the Army of Satan who fight all their lives for the evil to triumph. They are bound to lose, in this world as well as in the Akhirah. The success here is short-lived while defeat is indeed their eternal lot.

 

The Most Unappreciative People on Earth

The infidels had not appreciated the position of the Holy Prophet-SAAW and refuted him-SAAW. But these self-styled Muslims who act against the Commands of Allah-SWT and His-SWT Prophet-SW are indeed the most unappreciative lot. Allah-SWT declares: "I-SWT shall prevail, and so shall My-SWT Prophet-SW . He-SWT is, of course, all-Powerful and whatever He-SWT wishes shall be. So disgrace is their destiny both here and in the Hereafter.

 

A Principle

Those who enjoy faith in Allaah-SWT and the Akhirah shall never befriend the infidels, who may be their fathers, sons, brothers or relatives for the latter oppose Allaah-SWT and His-SWT Prophet-SAAW . Allaah-SWT has engraved faith in the believers' Qulub, fortifying them with His-SWT Refulgence.

 

An Important Explanation

A courteous attitude towards the non believers and entering into economic, political or trade pacts with them is proved from the Holy Prophet-SW and the Righteous Caliphs–RAU .But the basic condition is that these treaties ought to facilitate Muslims in acting upon the Islamic Code of Life and not to make them follow the ways of the infidels.

 

A Deduction

The learned jurists command even the non practising and wayward Muslims that there will be no intimacy with the infidels beyond the working relationship. The Holy Prophet-SAAW used to pray not be indebted to any evildoer. Blessed indeed are those who follow Islam in letter and spirit and are gifted with luminous hearts. Allaah-SWT shall admit them into Jannah, where streams are subservient to orchards, to abide therein. Their greatest reward being that Allaah-SWT shall be pleased with them and shall reward them so much that they shall be elated and pleased with Him-SWT . They are the Army of Allah-SWT , destined for victory and shall always achieve what they aspire for.

 

Two Nation Theory

The Quran explicitly states that mankind is basically divided into two nations; the Army of Allaah-SWT or Allah-SWT ’s People, and the Army of Satan or Satan's people. The former hold right beliefs, enlightened hearts and strictly adhere to Islamic Code of Life and the latter are devoid of faith and follow their own way of life against Islam.
