bismillah

إِذَا جَاءكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَكَاذِبُونَ

Itha jaaka almunafiqoona qaloo nashhadu innaka larasoolu Allahi wa(A)llahu yaAAlamu innaka larasooluhu wa(A)llahu yashhadu inna almunafiqeena lakathiboon(a)

When the hypocrites come to you-SW, they say: We bear witness that you are Allah-SWT's Messenger-SW. Allaah-SWT well knows that you are His-SWT Messenger-SW, but Allaah-SWT also bears witness that the hypocrites are liars indeed

(63:1)

اتَّخَذُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ سَاء مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Ittakhathoo aymanahum junnatan fasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi innahum saa ma kanoo yaAAmaloon(a)

They have made their oaths a shield; and they turn away men from the path of Allaah-SWT.Vile is indeed what they have been working.

(63:2)

ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ آمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا فَطُبِعَ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ

Thalika biannahum amanoo thumma kafaroo fatubiAAa AAala quloobihim fahum la yafqahoon(a)

This, because they first believed and then disbelieved, their hearts are therefore sealed, so that they do not understand.

(63:3)

وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ وَإِن يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ يَحْسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْ هُمُ الْعَدُوُّ فَاحْذَرْهُمْ قَاتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ

Waitha raaytahum tuAAjibuka ajsamuhum wain yaqooloo tasmaAA liqawlihim kaannahum khushubun musannadatun yahsaboona kulla sayhatin AAalayhim humu alAAaduwwu fa(i)htharhum qatalahumu Allahu anna yufakoon(a)

And when you look at them, their persons please you, and if they speak, you listen to their discourse; they look as though they are blocks of wood prop up. They imagine every shout to be at them. They are the foe; so beware of them.   Perish them Allaah-SWT ! Whither are they deviating?

(63:4)

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لَوَّوْا رُؤُوسَهُمْ وَرَأَيْتَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Waitha qeela lahum taAAalaw yastaghfir lakum rasoolu Allahi lawwaw ruoosahum waraaytahum yasuddoona wahum mustakbiroon(a)

And when it is said to them: come! So that the Messenger-SW of Allaah-SWT may ask forgiveness for you, they twist their heads, and you see them retire. While they are stiff-necked.

(63:5)

سَوَاء عَلَيْهِمْ أَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ لَن يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفَاسِقِينَ

Sawaon AAalayhim astaghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lan yaghfira Allahu lahum inna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alfasiqeen(a)

It is alike to them whether you ask forgiveness for them or not; Allaah-SWT shall not forgive them. Allaah-SWT does not guide a transgressing people.

(63:6)

هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِندَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَنفَضُّوا وَلِلَّهِ خَزَائِنُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ

Humu allatheena yaqooloona la tunfiqoo AAala man AAinda rasooli Allahi hatta yanfaddoo walillahi khazainu a(l)ssamawati wa(a)lardi walakinna almunafiqeena la yafqahoon(a)

They are the ones who say: Spend not on those who are with Allah-SWT's Messenger-SW, so that they may desert him, whereas Allah-SWT's are the treasures of the heavens and the earth. Yet the hypocrites do not understand

(63:7)

يَقُولُونَ لَئِن رَّجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Yaqooloona lain rajaAAna ila almadeenati layukhrijanna alaAAazzu minha alathalla walillahi alAAizzatu walirasoolihi walilmumineena walakinna almunafiqeena la yaAAlamoon(a)

They say: Surely if we return to Madinah, the mightier shall drive out the meaner thence; whereas the might belongs to Allah-SWT , and His-SWT Messenger-SW and the faithful. Yet the hypocrites do not know.

SECRETS OF REVELATION:

This Surah concerns those so called Muslims who conspire against Islam. They have been termed as Munafiqun (the hypocrites). It was revealed in 5th or 6th A.H on the eve of the Battle of Bani al-Mustalique, when a military action had to be undertaken due to their mischief. The Holy Prophet-SW himself commanded the troops. The action took place near the springs of the said tribe, who suffered heavy casualties, due to the arrows shot by the Muslims. They were defeated and a large number of their people were taken prisoners including Hadhrat Jaweriah-RAU, the daughter of their chieftain. She was later married to the Holy Prophet-SW and as a result about a hundred women prisoners were released and her tribe embraced Islam. The hypocrites, who had joined the Muslim army with a selfish motive of having a share in the booty, were fully exposed during this campaign. They exploited a minor quarrel between two Companions to set Ansar and Muhajinn against one another. Ibn-e-Ubbi, their leader, tried to incite Ansar to expel Muhajirin from Madinah, and to stop aiding them. He had aspired to become the chief of Madinah before the arrival of the Holy Prophet-SW. His ambition was, however, frustrated once the old system of governance was replaced by the Islamic system led by the Holy Prophet-SW, who was to be succeeded by the caliphs. Ibn-e-Ubbi saw no chance to come to power now and he plotted, in vain, to undermine the Islamic State. Allaah-SWT says that when the hypocrites appear before the Holy Prophet-SW, they claim that they are witness to his being the Messenger-SW of Allah-SWT . Of course, Allaah-SWT knows it too.

 

Hypocrisy

But He-SWT is also Witness that these hypocrites are liars. They do not inwardly accept the system given by Him-SWT , because it fails their ambitions to gain authority, influence or privilege. This means that a person, who claims to be a Muslim, offers Salat and fasts, but does not favour the Islamic system, because it would not bring him to power, would be a hypocrite. May Allaah-SWT protect us from such behaviour!

 

These hypocrites use their pretentious faith as shield while actually they impede people from Allah-SWT's Way. They conform to Salat and fasting in pretence but practically oppose the Islamic System by raising objections against it. Their behaviour is obnoxious, for they once blessed with faith preferred disbelief. They coveted the old profane system for worldly gains and in the process offended Allah-SWT; Who-SWT sealed their hearts against comprehending the truth.

 

They appear stout and youthful, but are hollow inside. Their conduct is devoid of faith, morality and courage. They are like the wooden logs that appear standing straight but are actually resting against a wall. Fear rides their senses all the time as if every calamity is going to befall them. They are treacherous enemies, of whom the Holy Prophet-SW must beware. May Allaah-SWT destroy them, for their heinous conduct! Even when they are advised to repent so that the Holy Prophet-SW may pray for their forgiveness, they disdainfully walk away. Captivated by the vanity of power, they are always engaged in impeding Islam. The Holy Prophet-SW may forgive them due to his-SW benevolent nature, and may pray for them but Allaah-SWT will not forgive these sinners in any case.

 

A Moment of Reflection for the so Called Muslim Rulers

Muslims rulers, who profess virtue, but practically oppose the Islamic System, must beware that they are in fact opposing the Messenger-SW of Islam. It is such an outrageous sin that Allaah-SWT forbids him to pray for such wrongdoers. May Allaah-SWT guide them out of the ordeal!

 

The Western Policy

The heartless infidels assert that if the Muslims and their System are not financially supported, they would disintegrate themselves. In today's world, the West is exploiting the imprudent Muslim rulers lust for power to snatch away economic resources from them so that the Muslims may not even think of the Islamic System.

 

But these fools do not realize that the treasures of the universe are with Allah-SWT . He-SWT would not let His-SWT bondmen fall prey to their conspiracies. The hypocrites think that they being stronger, would expel the weaker, that is, the immigrants once they are back in Madinah. The fact is that dominance and honour belong to Allah-SWT, His-SWT Prophet-SW and to those who sincerely conform to his teachings though the hypocrites fail to perceive it.

 

These Ayat though revealed on the eve of particular situations, yet are applicable for all times to come. These are very much relevant for today's so called Muslims engaged in conspiring against Islam.
